Ø       WHAT CEFRADURIS AND ËHAT IT IS USED FOR

CEFRADUR is an antibiotic (first-generation cephalosporins). The active substance is

cefradine. CEFRADURIS used to treat bacterial infections, caused by specific strains of

bacteria. These include:

- Respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis and lobar pneumonia) caused by

group A β-hemolytic streptococci and Streptococcuspneumoniae

(Diplococcuspneumoniae)

- Otitis media caused by group A β-hemolytic streptococci and Streptococcus

pneumoniae(Diplococcuspneumoniae), Haemophylusinfluenzae, and staphylococci.

- Skin and soft tissues infections caused by staphylococci (penicillinsusceptible and

penicillin-resistant) and β -hemolytic streptococci.

- Urinary tract infections, including prostatitis, caused by Escherichia coli, Proteus

mirabilis, Klebsiella spp. and enterococci (Streptococcus faecalis).

Ø       HOW TO TAKE CEFRADUR

The recommended dose in children over nine months of age is 25 to 50 mg/kg/day

administered in equally divided doses every 6 or 12 hours.

For otitis media the recommended dose is 75 - 100 mg/kg/day administered in equally

divided doses every 6 or 12 hours.

Cefradine dose administered in children should not exceed 4 g per day.

Administration of Cefradine to premature infants and newornsis not recommended.

The treatment should be extended to 48 to 72 hours after the disappearance of

symptoms or evidence of bacterial eradication.

In group A β-hemolytic streptococci infections, the treatment should be extended for at

least 10 days, in order to prevent the possible development of rheumatic fever and

glomerulonephritis.

Route and method of administration:

CEFRADURIS administered orally and it may be taken wthout regard to meals.
